TOPIC: Automotive Solder Alloys and Electronic Reliability
There is a need for “high reliability” solder alloys for use in automotive electronics assemblies. Automotive applications are challenging for tin/silver/copper (SAC) alloys. SAC alloy solder joints can fail before automobiles reach end of life. Many solder manufacturers are working to develop “high reliability” solder alloys, which can survive the demanding requirements of the automotive industry.
Join us as Tony Lentz, FCT Solder FAE, discusses automotive electronics and the demands placed on solder joints. Reliability data is compared and contrasted for several solder alloys including Nihon Superior’s SN100CV and LF-C2 alloys. Long lived automotive electronic assemblies can be created through the use of the correct solder alloy for the application.
